These animated stories are perfect for visual learners! All of my kids enjoy watching them and it is amazing how much better they remember dates/facts after watching these, compared to just reading/studying about the history.

I am thrilled with my purchase of Pocahontas. This is the fourth DVD that I have purchased from NEST Entertainment. My son is a "visual" learner, so I have been supplementing these biography/history DVD's as part of his homeschool curriculum. They have been very beneficial in his retention of the facts surrounding these important historical figures. We plan to purchase & use all 20 DVD's & supplemental downloads this school year! Thank you NEST for showing our kids how important God was in the lives of these tremendous people.

Pocahontas (c. 1595-March 21, 1617) was the daughter of Native American Chief Powhatan.

Ata young age, Pocahontas befriended the settlers at Jamestown, and herraw courage helped to save them from starvation and exposure. CaptainJohn Smith, one of the leading colonists at Jamestown, was a dearfriend to Pocahontas. When he was captured by a group of Powhatan,Pocahontas rushed to his aid and saved his life. Her brave interventionwas demonstrated on more than one occasion and saved the settlers’lives, bringing peace between two very different people groups.

Main Characters:
Pocahontas, John Rolfe (her husband), Thomas Rolfe (her son), Captain John Smith, Powhatan (her father), members of the Jamestown colony

Overall Theme:
Pocahontas is curious about the English settlers of       Jamestown. She befriends the townspeople and persuades her father to help them survive through the winter.  Because of Pocahontas, Jamestown’s leader, Captain John Smith, is saved from being clubbed to death.  Through Pocahontas’ efforts, peace is eventually restored between the Indians and the people of Jamestown.

Summary:
Pocahontas is a young girl when she first sees the English settlers of Jamestown.  Curious and brave, Pocahontas befriends the colony and persuades her father to help them survive through the winter.  This act of kindness brings peace between the Indians and the settlers.

As food grows scarce for the settlers, they begin to steal from the Indians. The Indians capture Captain John Smith, intending to kill him. Pocahontas saves his life by “claiming him for her own.” Captain Smith sets sail shortly thereafter and is presumed dead. When Pocahontas grows into a young woman, she is captured by members of the Jamestown colony and is held as ransom for supplies from her father.  Enter John Rolfe, who is placed as her guard.  As summer turns to fall and fall turns to winter, John and Pocahontas fall in love.  He teaches her to read the books Captain John Smith had given her before he left. When Pocahontas is released to her father again, the settlers demand their supplies.

Once again, Pocahontas risks her life in order to maintain peace.  Both the Indians and the settlers are forced to give in to what is known today as the “peace of Pocahontas.”

Background:
Pocahontas became known as a peacemaker in both Virginia and England. She was a strong, determined young woman who wanted peace for her family and her children. When she saved Captain John Smith’s life, she brought salvation to the Jamestown colony.

Living in a time of arranged marriages within her tribe,   Pocahontas fell in love with an outsider, John Rolfe, and wanted to marry him. Their marriage sealed peaceful relations between the Indians and the settlers for the next eight years.

Pocahontas was a true pioneer.  By bringing about peace in a time of the restructuring of America, she helped to shape the course of life in colonial America. Her strength and determination is a shining example for all to follow.
